EOY FY26 Reporting
Submission:
Thursday, September 10th: Optional, statewide edit, new statewide reports will be posted.
A statewide edit will be run between required MARSS submissions. Data that is on file at that time will be included in the updated statewide reports.
Submission:
Final data due. ONLY electronic appeal Web Files will be accepted after this date.
Thursday, October 1st: Files due to RMIC
Thursday, October 8th: Files due to MDE
FALL FY26 Reporting
MANDATORY for all charter schools and districts. Used to verify charter schools’ Average Daily Membership (ADM) projections

** If you have Region 1 upload your files, please submit them by the due to RMIC date. This will ensure there is time to run an edit, send and receive a release, and upload to MDE. Unfortunately if you wait until the MDE deadline we are unable to guarantee your files will be uploaded in time.

New MARSS Status End Code for 26/27
MDE has announced that Status End Code 09 Graduated by Meeting Objectives of IEP will be available to use for FY2027. Region 1 has added this code for districts. The description of Status End Code 09 in the MARSS Data Elements will read:
09 Graduated by Meeting Objectives of IEP. Use Status End Code 09 when
- a special education student graduates by meeting the objectives of their IEP, as identified in Minnesota Statutes, section 125A.04 .
These students are eligible to receive ongoing special education and related services and will continue to generate aid until they:
- Meet State standards for graduation by completing the requirements described in Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.24 (report these students with Status End Code 08: Graduated);
- Are determined to be no longer eligible for special education and related services following a reevaluation (report these students with the appropriate Status End Code 06 or 07);
- Their parent/guardian (or in the case of an adult student without a legal guardian the student themselves) revoke consent for the provision of special education and related services in writing (report these students with the appropriate Status End Code 06 or 07);
- Turn 22 years old (report these students with the appropriate Status End Code 06 or 07).
Open Office Hours
We started Synergy State Reporting office hours in July! As we build out our support for Synergy state reporting here at Region 1, we are trying some new things that we hope will help support you in your role. Amanda will be hosting office hour sessions every other week, so please hop on with questions. We are starting themed sessions in September!

Ed-Fi Corner
Ed-Fi setup emails went out to districts July 13th with steps to be completed to set up 26/27 Ed-Fi. MDE would like all districts to be syncing Ed-Fi data by September 10th. If you have not done so already, please complete your setup requirements provided in the email, and let Region 1 know you are ready to connect. Districts will be worked on in the order we receive the form submissions.

When working on your comparison report, keep in mind that it pulls MARSS data from your last upload. If you have not uploaded MARSS data for 26-27, there will be nothing to compare to. Please ensure you upload clean files for the next MARSS submission. Kari Johnson (ed-fi.mde@state.mn.us) at MDE is an excellent resource if you need assistance with running your comparison report.

Ed-Fi Myths Debunked
Myth: One small change to your setup will not impact Ed-Fi for your student data.
FALSE: Ed-Fi data is built in layers. Each entity can build upon or tie to previous entities. This is why the entities on MN Ed-Fi Mass Processes are numbered. The lower the number, the more foundational that data is. If you have incorrect or missing foundational data, the following data is not able to connect or build off of it correctly.
For example, say a grade level is missing from State Requirements. That grade level is then not included in the Calendar, which means the enrollment for a student cannot tie to the Calendar data. The enrollment will error, which then means the Programs for that student error, and so forth.
Another example is coding on course records. If a District Course is missing a Course Code, the course information will error. This means that Course Offerings will also error, which will cause Sections to error. This will then cause Staff Section Associations and Student Section Associations to error. This causes Grades to error.
These same connections are impacted if the data is incorrect instead of missing. Calendar changes impact enrollments and program records. The more correct your Synergy data is the first time, the more correct your Ed-Fi data will be as a whole, leading to less issues later in the year.
