Wednesday, April 1st: Additional EOY Errors Activated on the Local Edit

Thursday, April 2nd: Optional, statewide edit, new statewide reports will be posted.
A statewide edit will be run between required MARSS submissions. Data that is on file at that time will be included in the updated statewide reports.

Thursday, April 16th: Files due to RMIC
Thursday, April 23rd: Files due to MDE
** If you have Region 1 upload your files, please submit them by the due to RMIC date. This will ensure there is time to run an edit, send and receive a release, and upload to MDE. Unfortunately if you wait until the MDE deadline we are unable to guarantee your files will be uploaded in time.

Student Support Data Collection (SSDC)
Now is a great time to review and enter information needed for Student Support Data Collection reporting for this year. Staying on top of this data entry helps lessen the burden at the end of the school year. Data entry instructions for Synergy can be found out in Help under State Reporting > Region 1 Reporting Guides > Student Support Data Collection.
More information can be found on MDE’s SSDC page: https://education.mn.gov/MDE/dse/datasub/StudentSupport/
Minnesota Common Course Catalogue (MCCC)
You may be working diligently on your MCCC data, or you may be trying to wish it away. Wherever on the MCCC spectrum you may be, we want you to be aware of some adjustments being made to MCCC EDVP reports. MDE has implemented a new warning 35 in place of errors you may have seen in the last few months.
Warning 35 indicates that you have a District Course that is being reported, but does not have a Section reported for the given Term. This is very common, especially in schools scheduling both quarter and semester classes. Review these warnings to verify that the District Course does not need a Section for the indicated Term. These warnings do not need to be fixed or cleared, and will remain on your validation report. The District Course and any associated Sections will still report. You should prioritize any errors in your MCCC Validation Report.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Schools with VPK and EC Reported Under the Same School Number
MDE has updated logic on error 268 for VPK and EC students. Please review any VPK enrollments you may have changed due to this error. Often districts were changing the VPK enrollment to 999 percent enrolled to clear the 268 error. You can change these back to 100 percent enrolled without receiving error 268 now.
Remember that the VPK and EC enrollments are dictated by the IEP, and when the student is receiving the EC services. See the attached VPK training slides for more information. Example enrollments start on slide 38.

Ed-Fi Myths Debunked
Myth: You have to know how to read very technical code to understand Ed-Fi
FALSE: While knowing technical coding may help you pick up on the jargon, let you find issues at the drop of a dime, and make you overall very technically cool, it is NOT REQUIRED! A few resources at your fingertips are all you need. My favorite helper is Notepad++, and I know Kari uses https://jsoneditoronline.org/ when needed. These programs help break down the JSON files that Synergy produces into a format that is easier to digest. All you need to know how to do is copy and paste!
Stay tuned for more training on the Synergy JSON files, and how to use them to become an Ed-Fi Guru.
