Carl Perkins and MCCC

MDE recently announced that Carl Perkins reporting will shift to submitting through MCCC. This will be a three-year process, starting with cross walking course-level data. The October 1, 2026 Carl Perkins submission will use the current p-file format, so continue your regular Carl Perkins process.

To prepare for the shift, Region 1 is working on a way to identify which of your District Courses will need to be addressed in Synergy for MCCC 2025-26 reporting. We do not anticipate this to be a heavy workload. We will be in touch with districts shortly about next steps.

If you would like to review the current Carl Perkins information and process in Synergy, you can find the document in Help under State Reporting > Region 1 Reporting Guides > Carl Perkins.

Ed-Fi Myths Debunked

Myth: Seeing numbers on your comparison report is overwhelming and means you should pretend it doesn’t exist.

FALSE: Well, yes, it can be overwhelming, and appealing, to pretend it does not exist, some of the numbers on your comparison report are actually good! You will always see when you last submitted MARSS A and B files, as well as what time the Ed-Fi data was pulled for the comparison. (Hint: the closer these times are, the better) You also want to see numbers for Matching School Keys and Matching Student Keys.

If you are struggling with digesting all of the lines, numbers, and blue links when looking at your comparison report, try viewing it a different way! Select 2b. Download Comparison Report and click Run.

This gives you an Excel file that you are able to sort and filter. You will have two tabs, Missing Students, and MisMatched Data.

The Missing Students tab includes the enrollments that are missing in either MARSS or Ed-Fi. You will see 4 lines for each missing enrollment. Pay attention to the Status Begin Date. That is your clue for tracking down these enrollments.

The MisMatched Data tab is the rest of those comparison report lines. The first thing you want to do is to turn on filtering, and filter the Mismatch Exists column to only those with an X. The rest of the rows are just getting in your way! After filtering by mismatches, I like to sort on the Demographic column. This column is the type of information that is different. Sorting lets you put all the same differences together and makes it easier to see patterns in your discrepancies. Feel free to filter down to just one of the demographics at a time to see only the records you need to review for that type of data. Use the School column to filter down even more if you want to work by school.

Making the comparison report data easier to digest will in turn help you on the path to certifying. Please reach out if you have any questions!
