MN State Reporting This Month -- July 2026

MARSS Deadlines

EOY FY26 Reporting

Submission:
Used for August 30 FY 2026 entitlements, Special Education tuition billing, September 30 FY 2026 Early Childhood Screening Aid.
Thursday, July 16th: Files due to RMIC
Thursday, July 23rd: Files due to MDE

Submission:
Thursday, August 6th: Optional, statewide edit, new statewide reports will be posted.
A statewide edit will be run between required MARSS submissions. Data that is on file at that time will be included in the updated statewide reports.

** If you have Region 1 upload your files, please submit them by the due to RMIC date. This will ensure there is time to run an edit, send and receive a release, and upload to MDE. Unfortunately if you wait until the MDE deadline we are unable to guarantee your files will be uploaded in time.

Mark Your Calendar

There will not be a July Synergy User Group Meeting due to summer schedules.

Wednesday, July 22nd @ 2:00pm: Edupoint State Reporting call. A link for the call will be sent out via email closer to the date.

Wednesday, July 15th: Early Education reporting is due. Make sure your ECFE and School Readiness data has been submitted via Ed-Fi before this date. Use the Early Education reports in the EDVP to verify. The Early Education document is in Help under State Reporting > Region 1 Reporting Guides, if you need a refresher on where to enter information in Synergy. This document was recently updated to better align with Ed-Fi elements!

Ed-Fi Syncing When Changing School Years in Synergy

During the summer, districts can choose when they switch the Synergy School Year for the next year. This is a reminder that the change does impact Ed-Fi syncing.

When the year is changed, the automatic sync job is no longer able to send student enrollment data for the 2025-26 school year. You may see the job still running, but it will error out each time.

You also are not able to sync until the automatic job is turned off, and syncing in the previous year is turned on. This will impact your Early Education and MCCC processes.

We are here to help! We make these adjustments as we are in Synergy for districts during the summer, so you may not even notice a difference. If you are running into issues, please let us know. You can also reach out to let us know you have changed years and would like your Ed-Fi settings changed as well. synergy@region1.k12.mn.us

Ed-Fi Myths Debunked

Myth: My comparison report is clean. I am all done with Ed-Fi.

FALSE: Congratulations on a clean comparison report! You are not done though. If you are rocking a clean comparison report, your next step is to start running MARSS reports using your Ed-Fi data as a source. This will give you the same reports you know and love (or hate, up to you) and that you are used to working with when it comes to MARSS data. Try running a MARSS 08 Error Report on your Ed-Fi data. This will probably show you some other errors you were not aware of.

The comparison report is good for finding and trying to identify how the Ed-Fi data is handled. The MARSS reports let you troubleshoot Ed-Fi data like you would normally do with your A/B file data. The only difference is where you look in Synergy when you are troubleshooting an error. You will still check the enrollment, make sure the right dates and codes are used, as well as any additional indicators or information that needs to be included. You got this!

PS: Don’t start with the MARSS 08 if you have not started working on your comparison report. It will appear much more scary than it needs to be. Work on the comparison report and use the MARSS reports together once you know that you have decent data in Ed-Fi. As always, reach out if you have any questions!
